Life Cycle Assessment and Carbon Footprinting

Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a tool for the systematic evaluation of the environmental impacts of a product or service through all stages of its life cycle - from raw material extraction, through production, distribution, use, to waste management and final disposal.

LCA has a variety of applications in companies. It can be used to:

Carbon Footprinting is a technique based on LCA methodology and is increasingly being used by organisations in the UK as they face increasing pressure to reduce their carbon emissions. It allows measurement of impact in terms of total carbon or greehouse gas emissions (measured in CO2 equivalents).
