Ecoinvent v2

Focus: Energy, transport, building materials, chemicals, washing agents, paper and board, agriculture, and waste management. The ecoinvent database contains 3500+ unit and system processes. All processes come with extensive documentation. Infrastructure data and uncertainty data are included as much as possible.

Source: Swiss Center for LCI, Switzerland.

Availability: Included in all new professional SimaPro licences. Other SimaPro users can purchase a licence.

The new ecoinvent version 2 is now available. It contains over 3500 processes with many new and updated datasets. For users using SimaPro for professional purposes, the price for SimaPro now includes ecoinvent. For educational uses and for users who do not yet have ecoinvent, ecoinvent can be purchased separately. Current ecoinvent version 1 users can buy ecoinvent version 2 separately.

ETH-ESU 96

Focus: Energy. Electricity generation and related processes like transport, processing, waste treatment. Inlcudes 1,200 unit processes and 1,200 system processes. Extensive documentation provided.

BUWAL 250 database

Focus: Packaging materials (plastic, carton, paper, glass, tin plated steel, aluminium), energy, transport, waste treatment.

Source: BUWAL. Fully documented and licenced database.

Availability: Included in all SimaPro versions.

Dutch Input Output database

Focus: Economic Input Output database for the Netherlands. For use on its own or in hybrid LCA studies.

Source: PRé Consultants.

Availability: Included in standard database (commercial and educational versions).

Danish Input Output database

Focus: Economic Input Output database for Denmark.

LCA Food

Focus: Food, animal production, animal food, plant production, fertilisers, aquaculture, energy, transport, and waste treatment.

Focus: Inventory data provided by industry associations. Mostly cradle to gate data.

IDEMAT 2001

Focus: Engineering materials (metals, alloys, plastics, wood), energy, transport.

Source: Data collection from various sources supervised by Dr. Han Remmerswaal, Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, Delft Technical University, the Netherlands.

Availability: Included in all SimaPro versions.

Franklin US LCI database

Focus: North American inventory data for energy, transport, steel, plastics, processing.

Source: Data collected by Franklin Associates. Fully documented and licenced database.

Availability: Included in all SimaPro versions.

Data archive

Focus: Materials, energy, transport, processing, waste treatment.

Source: Variety of older public sources (PWMI, BUWAL 132, ETH, SPIN, Chalmers, Kemna).

Availability: Included in standard database (commercial and educational versions).

Dutch Concrete database

Focus: Dutch data related to all aspects of concrete production and use. Can be used in combinations with wizards (data and wizards are in Dutch).

Source: Betonplatform, the Netherlands.

Availability: Free for Dutch users with service contract. Available on request for other users with service contract, however no language support is provided. The database is protected against copying and export.

IVAM

Focus: Materials, transport, energy, and waste treatment. Mostly focused on Dutch data.

Source: Data collected by IVAM Environmental Research, the Netherlands.

Availability: To be purchased from IVAM Environmental Research. Price: Euro 1,575 per licence (excluding VAT).

FEFCO

Focus: European data on corrugated board production, partially based on BUWAL 250. Includes extensive wizards to model the production and life cycle of corrugated board.

Source: European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers, FEFCO.

Availability: Only available together with SimaPro Compact licence through FEFCO. Link to the accompanying report.

EuP database for Energy using Products

Focus: Developed for product group assessment within the EU Energy using Products (EuP) legislative process using the MEEuP methodology.

Source: VHK Consultants for the EU Commission.

Availability: Freely downloadable for SimaPro 7 demo or full version users.
