Introduction

As a result, we have regularly been approached by legal and financial professionals seeking industry-specific consultancy services. These have included expert evidence, loss adjustment, commercial due diligence, opinions relating to patents, technology evaluation and auditing compliance with regulations/best practice. The same clients have also been frequent users of Pira's publishing, conference and information services, which they recognise as a trusted source of authoritative market intelligence.
Over the past decade, our focus on the traditional paper, packaging, printing and publishing industries has broadened to include a wide range of related sectors and enabling technologies. The acquisition of Pira International by Ciba Specialty Chemicals in 2004 further increased the scope of the services offered by providing access to an additional 1500 experts working in a network of 24 research centres across Europe, the US, India, China and Japan. In view of this, a decision was taken to be more proactive in seeking consultancy work in the field of professional and transaction services.
As part of this initiative, Pira has teamed up with Moore & Associates, a US consultancy firm, to offer a service providing one stop price forecasting and market intelligence for the recovered wood fibre market. Subscribers to the service receive quarterly bulletins which summarise historic prices, predict future price movements and provide a commentary on major market developments. The principal grades of recovered paper and board are covered for the North American and European markets.
In 2005, Pira Consulting set up a dedicated Financial Markets team specifically to manage the delivery of business carried out for clients in the financial services sector. Pira Financial Markets is directed by Dr.Nick Goddard whose extensive experience working in both industry and the City ensures that our products are technically rigorous while being tailored to match the real needs of financial professionals. Team members combine extensive hands on experience in a wide range of industries which include paper and board, packaging, printing and publishing with business consultancy and analysis skills to provide services such as due diligence along with customer surveys as well as access to in-house market reports and sector information services.
